Extra Mile Fitness Company began in August 2012 in Valparaiso, Indiana, with a simple goal: create a running and walking specialty store where every person feels welcome, listened to, and confident in the footwear they choose.
Founded by longtime runners Todd and Heather Henderlong, Extra Mile was built around personalized service, knowledgeable fittings, and a genuine love for movement and community.
In June 2026, Extra Mile expanded into Crown Point, Indiana, bringing our personalized fitting experience, experienced team, and commitment to community to Lake County.
Our Crown Point location allows us to serve even more runners, walkers, athletes, families, and people simply looking for comfortable footwear to keep them moving.
Our people are what make Extra Mile different. Our experienced staff includes runners, walkers, student-athletes, coaches, recent college graduates, and longtime members of the Northwest Indiana community.
With an average of more than six years of experience, our team brings knowledge, consistency, and personal attention to every fitting.
We don't believe in simply handing you a shoe. We listen, learn how you move, and help you find the option that feels right for your body, activities, and goals.
